The OceanPrediction DCC is excited to share the release of a comprehensive special issue “Ocean Prediction: Present Status and State of the Art. Featuring 26 peer-reviewed papers authored by leading experts from around the world, a major milestone that reflects the scale and depth of today’s ocean forecasting community.

Published in the State of the Planet Journal of Copernicus Publications, the special issue offers a global snapshot of the current capabilities, challenges, and innovations in ocean prediction, a critical tool supporting decision-making across key sectors such as marine safety, coastal zone management, and disaster risk reduction. The compilation also explores cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing, showing how these are shaping the future of ocean science.

It was developed by the Ocean Forecasting Co-Design Team within the OceanPrediction DCC, in collaboration with Ocean Decade programmes such as Foresea, OceanPractices, DITTO among others. The result is a comprehensive picture of the situation of ocean prediction that demonstrates its relevance and will foster future developments to overcome the present-day limitations.
