PROMPT Meeting for Technical Activities in Spain

PROMPT, an extension of the project Best Rapid Environmental Assessment Decision sYstem-(BE-READY), aims to fight marine pollution in the Mediterranean Sea and neighboring countries to safeguard biodiversity and the environment. This 2-year project, spanning from February 2023 to January 2025, is designed to address major threats such as oil and chemical spills, the so-called Hazardous-Noxious-Substances (HNS), which are carried daily along the sea tracks.

The consortium of PROMPT held a technical meeting in Santander, Spain. The meeting was held in person and discussions were centered on the core concept of the project, the activities done so far by partners were presented to the consortium, and relevant stakeholders.

On the first day, an internal technical meeting between the partners of the consortium was held at IHCantabria facilities led by Dr. Ana Julia Abascal (FIHAC) in which the project coordinator UNIGE addressed PROMPT’s administrative and general issues and all of the partners presented their activities done so far, in progress, advances, and their next steps activities. The meeting was attended in person by partners FIHAC, UNIGE, WASDI, OEPT, and JUA, and remotely by PM_TEN. It lasted for 5 hours and a half, from 9:00 CET to 14:30 CET. The second day of the meeting was focused on meeting relevant stakeholders.The overall objective of the event was to enhance the visibility of the PROMPT project and to interact with invited stakeholders. The meeting was held at the Port of Santander facilities. Along with the members of the PROMPT consortium, the stakeholders attending the meeting were Salvamento Marítimo (SASEMAR- Spanish Search and Rescue Agency), Autoridad Portuaria de Santander (Santander Port Authority), Capitanía Marítima (Maritime Authority) and Civil Protection/Government of Cantabria. It lasted for 2 hours, from 9:00 CET to 11:00 CET.After the meeting at Port of Santander facilities, a two-hour visit to Port facilities took place during which the main terminals were visited. The purpose of the trip was to learn more about the functionalities of the Port of Santander. During the trip, the attendees were accompanied by a tour guide who gave explanations about the activity of the Port. The visit lasted from 11:00 CET to 13:00 CET. The meeting ended with a closing remark from Dr. Ana Julia Abascal (FIHAC) thanking all for coming to the meeting and praising their advances in the PROMPT project.
