The IOC Africa Regional workshop and the 9th IOCAFRICA Session took place from 14 to 15 June in Mombasa, bringing together representatives from IOC UNESCO, member states, regional institutions and partners to review regional priorities, strengthen programme coherence, and advance Africa’s contribution to global ocean governance and sustainable blue economy development. The meeting also provided an important platform to align ongoing initiatives with regional priorities and explore areas for future partnership in support of Africa’s ocean agenda.

Mercator Ocean International, through its longstanding support to IOC-UNESCO, its recently signed cooperation agreement, and its coordinating role of the OceanPrediction Decade Collaborative Centre and the OPERA project, is committed to supporting IOC Africa and Member States in the development of ocean forecasting and monitoring capacities, digital ocean services, promoting knowledge exchange and innovation, and strengthening the use of ocean science to support sustainable development, climate resilience, ocean governance and informed decision-making across Africa.
